Urban Impact

Urban impact aims to bring positive benefits to local communities across the city in the following ways:
Mind: Encouraging and supporting families, couples & singles in our community. Helping to bring hope in some of the more challenging areas of life-skills and relationships.
Body: Meeting some of the practical and physical needs in our communities and helping to revive a spirit of fairness and justice among the disadvantaged.
Soul: Recognising the importance of spiritual needs in our society and providing the opportunity to examine the way in which the Christian faith can meet those needs in our communities.

Currently we do this in two ways:
Ongoing Social Action projects.

Focused projects in specific areas (Hot Zones)

Social Action Projects

Any active and effective church must be thoroughly involved with its local community. At CCK we have some projects that are city-wide and others that are much more localised, serving local communities through various forms of social action.

We have KIDZ KLUB, a high activity, Saturday morning club for children in school years 6 – 10. They are bussed to our building in Clarendon Villas from estates around the city. During the week the family of each child is visited by KK team members and great relationships have been developed. This has resulted in further opportunities to help a number of families with pressing social needs. KK, together with the ‘Big Breakthrough Club’, a local initiative in Whitehawk, are now working with a large number of children across the city.

We have a weekly FRIENDS FIRST drop-in for the homeless and disadvantaged at our Clarendon Centre building in Brighton.

The SUPPORTED HOUSING UNIT in Hove is for those attempting to make a fresh start in life after addiction problems, homelessness and emotional trauma.

Locally, we have a Mother & Toddler group in Central Brighton, called SHINING STARS, meeting at the Clarendon Centre.

A new initiative, CITYLIGHT, is researching the needs among women sex-workers in the Brighton area with a view to establishing some form of support.

ALTERNATIVES is a pregnancy counselling service for women, (and their partners) facing abortion or needing post abortion counselling. More info: click here.

As part of our PRISON MINISTRY we also have team of people who visit the two local prisons at Lewes and Ford on a regular basis.

NEW HORIZONS is a group for the more mature age group, which meets on Fridays at our Clarendon Centre building.

This is by no means the full list of our social action projects but helps to provide a flavour of the broad range activities in which we are involved across Brighton & Hove.

All that we do in the community is a practical expression of our Christian faith. Jesus had a passion for people; he recognised their needs and met them. We want to reflect that attitude across our city where people in need are looking for help, support and relationship.

Hot Zones 2007

HANGLETON & KNOLL
This year we've planned community activities Wednesday 25th - Friday 27th July, and are hosting a celebration party on Friday evening between 5pm and 9pm at the Goldstone Primary School, Laburnum Avenue, Hove. Tough Talk (power lifters with amazing testimonies) will be with us and there will be a giant BBQ, plus Kidz Klub, bouncy castles and live music!

SOUTHLANDS
Our activities will focus around the Milward Court Day Centre, and we have use of this property during the day on Wednesday 25th July to Friday 27th July, and on Friday evening, too. We are uncertain of precise details of the work we'll be doing, but an indication of general willingness will help us enormously!

SOUTH HOVE
This year we are delighted to have been invited by the Poets' Corner Residents Society to participate once again in their main Festival Funday on 14th July, and also to be part of the Children's Funday the following Saturday (event to be confirmed). Then come three days of Hot Zone activity (Wednesday 25th-Friday 27th July) such as decorating, gardening, serving the community and clearing rubbish; and finally our very own CCK Funday on Saturday 28th July.

WHITEHAWK
We'll be helping the community in various ways depending upon the skills and vision of the people serving.

WOODINGDEAN
This year we've planned another painting project on Wednesday 25th - Friday 27th July, and are hosting a party for the volunteers on the evening of Saturday 28th July. Before all that starts, we're hosting a children's event in the Woodingdean Carnival on Saturday June 30th.
